Summary: The beds were okay, a bit lumpy but I did sleep well on them. Slightly too short for my size but I'm a tall westerner at 194 cm (6'4½"). The room's heater though was just too loud. The breakfast is tasty.
I can't say anything about the shower room because I used the nearby onsen.

Summary: Quite a nice stay at Guesthouse Fuga. The lady owner is lovely and the included breakfast was good too. Twin room with air con quite spacious and there is a desk and chair, a couple of coathangers. Just me but if you had 2 people sharing- 1 person gets a bed, the other person gets a fold out bed. I slept fine and area very quiet.
A parking spot at the front door is excellent. All rooms are upstairs so you need to be able to walk up about 15 stairs. 1 toilet and 1 washbasin upstairs but I didn't have to wait.
The reason I gave it 4 stars is the shower has to be accessed by going outside the front door into a shed. Ok in mild weather as now but would not good in the winter. Towels have to be hired for 200y as at hostels. As always if you get a noisy person, they can be heard in other rooms so I had to ask a lady to be quiet at 630am.
Easy walk to samurai street and restaurants. Take a torch if you go out at night as street lighting not very good.

Summary: Staying with the host family but everyone party gets a separate bedroom
There are simple amenities and towels for rent.
Cozy place that feels like home.
Only drawback is to need to walk <1 min to the showering place but they have good warm keeping facilities during winter.

Summary: We loved staying at this Japanese Inn. It is a small inn and it is clean, safe, walkable and very affordable. The shower and bathroom are not in the room, but both the bathroom and shower were always available, well stocked and very clean. Breakfast was traditional Japanese and delicious! We visited during the winter time and it was snowing, but the rooms are very warm especially since we are from south Florida. The owner makes sure you are comfortable and made us feel very welcome. We'll definitely stay here again.

Summary: Japanese hostess is kind and good at English. Even though facilities are very basic, it is highly recommend for budget travel. Remember to make reservation for lunch and dinner in the hotel as the dinning atmosphere is excellent.

Summary: I would definitely stay here again. The manager, Eiko was very relaxed and welcoming. We arrived when she was out but there was a note saying our room was ready and please go in. The walk from the station was not a bother (and we arrived when it was raining). It gave us the opportunity to learn about this amazing town. The shower room was outside the genkan but would have been fine, however we relaxed in the public bathhouse just around the corner. Breakfast was truly amazing, prepared by Eiko in her restaurant at the front of the guesthouse. Her free bikes were in great condition and excellent for seeing the town and adjacent area. Kakunodate was a surprise for us, we came to ride the Akita Nairiku train ride and also discovered the amazing samurai houses and the plantations of cherry trees. Really recommend a visit to the Ishigura samurai house. 12th generation resident Mr Ishigura gave a really interesting tour in English - 400 yen.
