Positive: The view is beautiful and calming, the apartment is very clean and quite bright, plenty of parking space, quiet location, spacious and comfortable bathroom with great heating/drying system, daily restock of coffee/towels/trash collection plus daily cleaning, twin room had two single beds with rather hard mattresses, kitchenette with a microwave oven allowed some very basic cooking. Overall a nice place we’d gladly return to as Shodoshima is a lovely off the beaten path island. I recommend this place to people who have a car (it’s too remote to be there without a car, Shodoshima also isn’t a bike island like Naoshima or Teshima).

Negative: Horrible flat and hard bean pillows that gave us headache and stiff neck during the entire four night stay. We love bean pillows but these ones were some of the most uncomfortable we’ve ever slept on. Duvets covered in bedsheets - I just hope the duvets’ covers are washed and replaced after each guest too, not just the sheets. Useless washing machine (the lid seems to be closed all the time so black mold grew in there, it stinks horribly and I’d never put my clothes in there). I read a review saying someone got a used dish sponge, I was sure it must have been a one time incident and if not, it was surely not happening anymore after the review. Well, I was wrong. We checked in to a gross, used dish sponge and had to buy our own. How can I tell what the previous guests used it for? Maybe somone cleaned their shoes or luggage with it? Maybe they rubbed the bathtub to make sure it was clean? Maybe someone cleaned their child’s puke? Complete lack of hygiene and it’s something that costs almost nothing to be replaced after each guest. Biodegradable coconut dish sponges would nicely match the eco bathroom set that’s provided. The sofa that seems to be a part of a woven garden furniture set is very uncomfortable to sit for a longer time. If the weather isn’t nice enough to sit outside it’s very hard to spend time indoors which we did regret a lot as the view is lovely. If only the three downstairs rooms were instead just two with more space to make a comfortable sitting and chilling area then this place would be a luxury. Low quality finishings, this place is almost new but the bed lamps are already all broken, hanging on the wires - this doesn’t give a good first impression. Also, the wind blows through the power outlets right on your head at night… The room is very empty with no decor or sound insulation, we could hear our echo with every sound we made. A few shelves would be nice as the coffee table is the only place to put stuff in the room.
