Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Quiet location, well out of city centre. Felt very private, surrounded by trees.

Negative: After a month of staying up and down NZ at a dozen different locations this property was the least welcoming and most disappointing - and the only one we haven't rated highly when doing our honest reviews. It's also the only property we wouldn't stay at again. While I received prompt communication from the property management company it was offputting to be invited to feel free to use the kitchen facilities (errr - I've paid you to rent the property....). And then to be warned that if the kitchen wasn't cleaned properly there would be a surcharge. Ironically the kitchen had a disgusting old sponge that should have been replaced months earlier. Although maybe guests were supposed to supply their own cleaning products as the only things in the cupboard appeared to be leftovers. The toiletries were a mish mash of whatever had been left behind. And - this was the ONLY property in five weeks that didn't provide a courtesy teabag/coffee - not even the cheapest quality. We also stayed in motels with better equipped kitchens. Despite having an oven and cooktop, it was clear from the messaging that they didn't want them used. No ovenware, no salad bowl - not even a bread knife. Property maintenance is also slipping - missing blades on the verticals, flickering light over the island bench and a door that can't be closed into the laundry (which made it impossible to use the sink behind the door). The property also gets very hot and the driveway is not for the faint of heart or those with a large vehicle. It is steep, narrow and difficult to navigate (the evidence of previous guest mishaps could be seen on the retaining wall).

Summary: Looks good in the pictures - has the potential to be so much better with a few simple touches
